Assorted Projects

These are examples of projects in which I’ve had tremendous creative freedom.

My personal style truly shines through in these designs.

Engagement Postcard (2009)

This little postcard has endured as one of my all-time favorite projects. The client was hosting an engagement party for a couple with both east and west coast roots and social circles, united by their love for the outdoors. Her guidance to me was: “Mt. Rainier as seen from Puget Sound. In the water, the reflection of Mt. Rainier would be the Capitol. Maybe a kayak going by in the water . . . Could be a literal drawing or maybe a more abstract design with this theme.” I think I nailed it!

St. Michael Theatre Group

I designed these marketing posters for my church’s theatre group. We are blessed to have several professional actors and musicians, and I wanted to create visuals that reflected the caliber and quality of these shows. In both cases, I first created the show logos, then supplemented with visuals that would set the stage (pun intended). Design elements from the Oklahoma! poster were also used for the set design.

Chris Peace Write-in Campaign (2019)

In 2019 I lent my talents to a grassroots campaign to save my state Delegate, who lost his nomination due to political manipulation by local party leadership. I created all of the graphics and copywriting for newspaper ads and social media campaign. Without any input or help from our candidate or professional campaign consultants, we amateurs managed to secure more than 25% of the vote for our candidate, which is nearly unheard-of for a write-in campaign.

Virginia Community Policing Institute Annual Report (2005)

One of my earlier projects is this annual report for the Virginia Community Policing Institute. I developed the theme, text, and graphics with guidance from the organization’s executive director, introducing VCPI’s new color scheme to its funders and supporters.

Stewardship Campaign (2009)

One of several stewardship seasons I shepherded at my parish. This is designed to be an annual renewal of time, talent, and treasure for budget and ministry planning.

St. Michael Music Ministry CDs (2011 & 2016)

I’ve had the privilege of designing the packaging of three St. Michael Music Ministry CDs, two of which are shown. Graphics for “There Is a Time” produced for our 25th anniversary were inspired by the theme of Christ’s presence in word, sacrament, and community. One morning while working on the design, I woke to an amazing autumn sunrise. Later than morning our director Tom sent me a photo he’d taken from his back porch when he also had seen the sunrise, and we were convicted that God himself had provided the art for our use! For “Breath of Heaven,” a parishioner had provided the sketch, and our challenge was to utilize it in an attractive way.

Bell Creek Homeowners Association (2022)

From 2019 to 2022 I served on the board of my neighborhood homeowners association. I developed our website as a both a resource for residents and elevate our community’s online curb appeal to prospective buyers. In addition to the graphics, I wrote most of the copy and developed the site structure and navigation flow. This is also an excellent example of how I use colors and fonts to enhance an existing brand (the logo designed by the original real estate development team).
